Speaker: Christoph Ramseier

In everyday dental practice, conventional heath education approaches such as oral hygiene instructions or tobacco use brief interventions frequently lack long-term effect and thus appear to need repetition.

In contrast, Motivational Interviewing (MI) is based on a different assumption of human behaviour change. It concludes that motivation to change is elicited “from within the patient” rather than externally imposed upon the patient by a practitioner. Various approaches on how to implement MI into everyday dental practice will be presented in this webinar.

Learning Objectives

While communicating with the patient, the oral health professional will

  1. be able to roll with resistance towards change,
  2. resolve ambivalence to facilitate change, and
  3. increase self-efficacy to strengthen new behavior
